"STORIES
THAT TELL: Entering the New Year Intentionally"
with Julian Gopala Pozzi
Part
I:
Friday December 28, 6-7:30pm; Center
of Integrative Medicine, 3536 Grove Ave (corner of Thompson:
entrance thru parking lot behind building)
Part
II:
Saturday December 29, 9:30am-12:30pm
About the
workshop: "The
stories we tell, tell us ", said a great writer.
We don't tell stories as much as they tell us. We organize our
lives around narratives, and when we learn them and begin to consciously
narrate the stories that are "telling us", we begin
to feel the tranformative power of storytelling. We are all
always telling a story - through our lifestyle, our bodies,
our relationships and our language. Using a combination
of different exercises, ranging from physical (yoga, breathing
and meditation) to creative (writing and drawing), we will explore
the intentions that organize our stories. These intentions
lie beneath the surface of all stories and are waiting to be
heard, transformed and lived out courageously. We will also
investigate the works of artist and spiritual masters (From Shakespeare
to the Dalai Lama) and appreciate the living truth that
touches and moves us in their art and lives. That living
truth, is the Secret story of our life: Is it a Thriller? A Melodrama?
An Epic? A Love story? This Secret story, the only Secret
really, is not available in bookstores. It is within us. We
keep it secret from ourselves, but live it out. Come and explore
it, and begin the New Year living our True Self, aligning
who we are with what we express, as we start telling our story
consciously.
About the Speaker: Julian
Gopala Pozzi was certified and began teaching Yoga in his mid-teens,
when he also began writing poetry and gaining recognition for
it. He graduated from Earlham College, a Quaker school,
with a degree in Peace and Global Studies and Spanish Literature.
After college, he studied under Swami Satchidandanda and was
the Director of the Integral Yoga Teacher's Association
before moving to New York. There he assisted renowned Metropolitan
Museum of Art art lecturer Rosamond Bernier and her husband
John Russell, the Chief Art Critic Emeritus of the New
York Times. He's been heavily involved with Jungian psychology
and has worked for a Jungian foundation that supported research
of mythology and archetypes. Most recently, he graduated
from Columbia University with an MFA in Theater and Playwrighting
and just finished working in Los Angeles on the HBO show "John
From Cincinatti" as a writing intern to "NYPD"
and "Deadwood" creator David Milch before moving
on to become the Associate Producer of New Media for the show.
He is excited to share his passion of archetypal psychology,
drama and spiritual practice and to see where life, as
seen as an experiment with truth (as Gandhi called it), can
take us together.
About the Cost: We
are letting you set the price for this workshop. Pay what you
believe this experience will be worth to you. This is based
on a new economic paradigm that seeks to correct the price-setting
problems of our society. It's an experimental model. It not
based on fixed "market" values where everyone is assumed
to be coming from the same place of maximizing their income
and minimizing expenses. This new paradigm is based on
valuing individual interactions, allowing each individual
who is receiving, to determine the value for the goods or services
based on what only they know: what they can afford
and how much they value something. It's based on trust
and not on fear. Every exchange (including money)
is ultimately an energy exchange. This new paradigm moves
forward to a way that re-establishes the importance of individuality
and relationships, but puts faith in the individual purchasing
as an agent that wants to contribute to the welfare of
others, because they realize that "we always receive
what we give", and therefore to get something for nothing
is impossible. This model is aimed at being fueled by
care and trust (a love ethic as Martin Luther King
called it) and a sense of abundance.

HATHA
YOGA INSIDE OUT
with Vimala Pozzi & Kavita Katherine
Sullivan
February 8 - 10, 2008,
Yogaville, Buckingham County, Virginia
(2 hrs from Richmond)
Tuition: $160 - plus 2 nights accommodationsof
your choice, which includes all meals, Hatha yoga classes and
more (see below)
About the program:
Whatever style of yoga we practice, sometimes our practice turns
into a mechanical activity. We shift into that "pilot state"
in which we "DO" asanas with our mind wandering elsewhere,
instead of "BEING" the asanas and focusing on the
inner experience. By practicing with the first approach, we
miss the journey of self-discovery, in which we experience the
Truth within and the state of Peace and uninterruptedAwareness. This
workshop is designed to bring mindfulness to our practice and
encourage continuity, while creating a discipline that accommodates
our lifestyle. It is also designed to help us find meaning and
develop a sense of reverence that will allow us to go deeper
into our practices. Included are guided asanas that direct our
awareness to the movement of energy through the chakras (energy
centers) and kosas (subtle bodies) as well as sharing and journaling
our experience. Combining Integral Yoga and the Yoga Sutras
of Patanjali with the supported self-exploration of Phoenix
Rising Yoga Therapy, this workshop will be a journey of Self-Discovery
that can lead to insights, guidance and further understanding
of our body, life issues, and relationships, while helping us
create our own personal practice to take back home.
