Aboutthe Bhagavad Gita
: The Gita is one of the oldest scriptural texts known to man, first set down centuries before the birth of Christ. Here are some quotes about the Gita by sages that have lived their lives by its teachings.

When disappointment stares me in the face and all alone I see not one ray of light, I go back to the Bhagavad Gita. I find a verse here and a verse there, and I immediately begin to smile in the midst of overwhelming tragedies - and if they have left no visible scar on me, I owe it to the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita." Gandhi

"Scriptures ought to be read again and again... If any of the lines here catch your eye and your heart, read them in your life. You don't even need a whole sentence. Just a quarter of one line is enough to lift you like a rocket, not just to the moon or Mars, but to the heavenly sun itself". Swami Satchidananda

"The Gita expounds very lucidly the fundamentals of Yoga philosophy. It is a great source of wisdom. It is a great value guide, a supreme teacher, an inexhaustible spiritual

KIRTAN & CHANT MUSIC with Wynne Paris

Performance Kirtan : Kirtan is a devotional form of singing and chanting traditionally performed with tabla and various Indian instruments, including the Sarod. Kirtans are "performed" by all participants joining in with the musicians as the melody and rhythms emerge spontaneously. At times the call of the lead chanter and response of the participants has a mesmerizing effect, almost like gospel spirituals. At other times the improvisation of the mucisian has an exhilarating jazz-like quality. But in all cases the kirtan participants are drawn into the music together, often eliciting an irresistible urge to join in by clapping, playing a percussion instrument, dancing, or just finding bliss within oneself.

AboutWynne Paris
: Wynne is an accomplished and sought after sarod player, who has performed with well known international kirtan musicians and recording artists, most recently Krishna Das and Dave Stringer. Mixing expressions and merging styles that range from what Wynne describes as "Raga Rock" to Indian and Tibetan folk, Wynne uses tabla loops, Indian instruments, and an innovative string playing style that borrows from his previous life as a self-described "rocker". It is a spiritually funky and uplifting sound that inspires and enlivens all.

About the workshop:
In this talk and workshop, we'll explore the idea of "loosening up", not only our physical bodies, but also of our tight restrictive sense of identity that is the cause of much of our stress. As many spiritual teachers advise us: the only thing we can depend on is change. And yet, knowing this, most of us face change with great resistance. (Why can't it, I, him, her...be different, or be the same?) Yes, our suffering can come from both sides of the equation: why did it have to change? Why isn't it changing?
Stress can come about from any change in our life, positive or negative, because it disrupts our comfortable illusion of permanence. Many of our afflictive and painful emotions can be linked to a refusal to accept things as they are: fear, resentment, regret, guilt, disappointment, rage.
But acceptance does not mean passive resignation. On the contrary, acceptance requires letting go of our sense of limitations to embrace a greater sense of possibility. At the core of the Buddhist notion of emptiness is the understanding that anything is possible at any time. Change may challenges us, but is also the way to our evolving sense of Self. Change pushes us to loosen up and to discover new possibilities inherent in new circumstances. At that is the essence of play and creativity: anything is possible!
Using a combination of yoga, buddhism, and creative imagination jolting exercises, we will engage the body, the heart and our innate sense of play to explore how to face change, create change and accept change. Swami Satchidananda used to say, "If you're not having fun, you're missing the point." So come have fun and play as we embrace change and transformation!

Julian Gopala Pozzi became a certified yoga instructor in 1990. Six years later, he graduated from Earlham College, a Historic Quaker College, with a degree in Peace and Global Studies. In 1998, he resided at Yogaville Ashram for a year as the Director of the Integral Yoga Teachers Association, where he was a founding staff member of the Children Teacher Training Program. Since 2001, he has lived in New York, working in the art world. He is currently in his third year of his MFA at Columbia University in the Theater Department in the Playwrighting Program.  He has studied Buddhism with Robert Thurman and is deeply invested in the study of Jungian and Archetypal psychology, as well as Western and Easter astrology.

About our Booth:
Nora Vimala Pozzi, director of the Integral Yoga Center of Richmond, will be manning the booth on YOGA THERAPY
. She will be offering information on the Therapeutic value of Yoga as it is applied to different health conditions such as Cancer, Heart Disease, Arthritis, Fibromyalgia, asthma, as well as mental and emotional imbalances. She will be also presenting information on Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy (PRYT). Nora offers currently yoga therapy private sessions and Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy, at the Center of Integrative Medicine. (see our page on PRYT) The following is an article written by Elissa Cobb, co-director of PRYT regarding yoga therapy written after the first Symposiun on Ygoa Therapy at LA on Jan/07, which Nora Pozzi attended:

"The Los Angeles Airport Hilton Hotel was recently overrun with thousands of Yoga teachers and Yoga therapists at the first Symposium on Yoga Therapy and Research, created by The International Association of Yoga Therapists. ...As the number of Yoga therapy practitioners grows worldwide, as Yoga becomes more accessible to all individuals, and as data from research on Yoga’s effectiveness reaches mainstream health care providers, so grows the debate over the need for defining Yoga Therapy and creating standards of care for the vast number of approaches to this valuable profession. The symposium posed the question,“What is Yoga Therapy?” It is a good question to ask, but it comes with as many answers as there are styles of Yoga. None of them are “wrong” and none of them are “right.” We enjoy a wealth of diversity in the Yoga world, and yet we all attempt to move toward one thing – “union.” And there are apparently many ways to get there. Michael Lee’s (Founder of Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy) shortest definition of Yoga Therapy is that it is a practice or method that produces a “change from one state of being to another state of being that is enhancing.” His definition is perhaps the simplest way to describe the overall power of Yoga therapy, without being exclusive of any type or style that is offered. Phoenix Rising is unique in the world of Yoga Therapy for several reasons, two of which seem the most noticeable. While other Yoga therapies are more physically therapeutic, PRYT is more psychologically therapeutic, while still being a body-oriented practice. And while other methods are prescriptive in nature, PRYT relies on empowering individuals to recognize and identify their own abilities to create and enact positive life change from the inside out".
For more info on PRYT, check their web site: www.pryt.com

Note: Please remember to visit also the boothsr: " Yoga Retreats" by YOGAVILLE, the headquarters of Integral Yoga® International, and "Alternative Medicine" with Dr. Lindley Smth, medical director of the Center of Integrative Medicine, where we offer our weekly classes and yoga therapy sessions.
